Description

This work is a limited edition photomechanical lithographic reproduction titled Moonlight Mooring, after an original watercolor by American Impressionist Paul Sawyier (1865–1917). The scene, executed in a Tonalist style, depicts a houseboat moored alongside a snowy riverbank beneath a pale moon visible through the branches of bare trees. The composition utilizes a muted palette of blues and grays to evoke a cold, atmospheric winter evening. The print is signed in the plate at the lower right and hand-numbered in ink 1286/2500. It is housed under glass in a gilt wood frame with a wide, cream-colored fabric-textured mat. The verso features an authentication label from Paul Sawyier Galleries, Inc., Frankfort, Kentucky, which specifies that the reproduction was printed in 1985 by Stevenson Photo Company and that all plates have been destroyed. A gallery stamp from Brennand’s Gallery of Louisville, Kentucky, is also present on the backing paper.Frame dimensions: 24 1/2 x 19 inches.
