The D. Bertholf Auction: Tractors, Implements, Guns, Stoneware and Artwork
Lot 602:
Description
This is a limited edition offset lithograph print after an original watercolor by the Kentucky artist Paul Sawyier, titled Knight’s Covered Bridge. The impressionistic landscape depicts a wooden covered bridge spanning the shallow, rocky waters of Elkhorn Creek in the Peak’s Mill area of Franklin County, Kentucky. The image is rendered in a muted palette of greens, blues, and sandy tones. A facsimile signature reading Paul Sawyier is located in the lower-left corner of the print. The work is professionally housed in a double mat of cream and dark green under TruGuard UV protection glass within an ornate, decoratively molded gilt-finished wood frame. The verso is sealed with a framer’s label for Jessie’s Art Gallery & Custom Framing in Frankfort, Kentucky. A Certificate of Authenticity from the Frankfort B/P Co., Inc. is attached to the reverse, certifying that the work is a collector print from a limited edition of 2,000 and noting that the original bridge was replaced by a concrete structure in 1935. 13 x 9.5 inches.
