Description
This set of four hand-carved and painted wooden figurines is executed in the traditional flat-plane folk art style and features a signature from carver C. Warren Larkin. The collection consists of three female figures and one male figure. The largest female figure wears a brown shawl and dress with hands clasped. The mid-sized female figure wears a red headscarf and a brown jacket, while carrying a small book and a white cloth. The smallest female figure wears an orange headscarf and a red and white striped skirt, also holding a small book. The male figure is depicted with a full white beard and wears a black hat, a black jacket featuring a hand-painted floral wreath motif on the chest, and brown trousers, and he holds a separate walking stick. The underside of the mid-sized female figure is inscribed in pencil with the name C WARREN LARKIN and the date Nov 26, 1934. Faint, illegible marks are present on the base of the largest female figure. Height: 6.5 inchesBase Width: 2.5 inchesBase Depth: 2.25 inches.
