Description
This salt-glazed stoneware jar was produced by B. Stebner in Hartville, Ohio. The vessel features a tall, cylindrical form with a slightly flared rim and exhibits prominent horizontal throwing rings from its manufacture on a potter’s wheel. The front is decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue slip-trailed script reading Plumbs situated above a freehand stylized whirligig flourish. Near the top rim, the jar is marked with a two-line impressed stamp reading B. STEBNER over HARTVILLE, OHIO. The interior of the crock is finished with a dark brown slip glaze. Height: 9 inches Base Diameter: 4 inches.
