Description
This cylindrical stoneware storage jar is a contemporary folk art piece produced by potter Bill Stebner. It is crafted from salt-glazed stoneware with a speckled tan finish. The front of the jar features hand-applied cobalt blue slip decoration consisting of the word Peaches written in cursive script. Beneath the text is a stylized cobalt blue flourish in a swirling, conical shape. The jar is designed with a slightly flared rim and a flat base. The body of the vessel is marked with an impressed stamp above the cobalt decoration which reads B. STEBNER on the top line and HARTVILLE, OHIO on the bottom line. This piece is a modern creation executed in the tradition of 19th-century American salt-glazed stoneware. Height: 9 inches Base Diameter: 4.5 inches.
