Description
A cylindrical salt-glazed stoneware storage jar attributed to potter Bernard Stebner of Hartville, Ohio. The vessel features a slightly flared rim and a flat base. The exterior surface displays a characteristic orange peel texture with a color gradient shifting from a light greyish-tan to a deeper, mottled brownish-tan. The front of the jar is decorated with hand-applied cobalt blue slip-trailed ornamentation consisting of the word Apples in a stylized cursive script. Below the text is a tapering spiral or funnel-shaped motif executed in cobalt blue slip. An impressed rectangular manufacturer’s mark is located near the upper rim and reads B. STEBNER / HARTSVILLE, OHIO. The interior of the jar is finished with a dark brown glaze. Height: 9.25 inches Base Diameter: 3.75 inches.
