Lot 260:
Description
This photomechanical lithographic reproduction, titled The Fading Day, is after an original watercolor by American Impressionist artist Paul Sawyier (1865–1917). The artwork depicts a winter landscape, likely in Kentucky, featuring a snow-covered path, rustic wooden fencing, and distant cottages under a hazy sky punctuated by a single cross-shaped star. The print includes a facsimile signature in the lower left corner and is hand-numbered 1151/2500 in the lower right. An authentication label from Paul Sawyier Galleries, Inc., of Frankfort, Kentucky, is affixed to the back of the frame. This label identifies the work, provides an artist biography, and states that the reproduction was printed in 1984 by the Stevenson Photo Color Company from an edition limited to 2,500 numbered prints and 200 publisher’s proofs. The piece is professionally presented in a fluted gilded wood frame with a dark green mat and a gold-colored inner fillet.Overall framed dimensions: 24 x 20 inches.
