The D. Bertholf Auction: Tractors, Implements, Guns, Stoneware and Artwork
Lot 21:
Description
This is a vintage insulated thermal picnic jug, a classic travel accessory used for motoring and camping during the early to mid-20th century. The object consists of a green-painted metal exterior shell containing a stoneware ceramic interior liner. It features a wire bail handle with a turned wooden grip and a threaded aluminum screw-top cap. The front of the jug bears a heavily degraded paper label with a diamond-shaped outline, though the text is largely illegible aside from fragmented characters including the letters h and i. This specific form and label style are frequently attributed to manufacturers such as Hemp and Co. or Knapp-Monarch for their Blue Ribbon product line. The jug stands on a flat base and features horizontal reinforcing ribs around the upper and lower portions of the body. Diameter: 9 inches Height to top of cap: 11 inches Height with handle extended: 13.5 inches.
