Description
A heavy cast metal vessel, likely brass or bronze, in the form of a mythical bird, typically identified as a hamsa or swan. This ewer is crafted in a South Asian folk or tribal style, exhibiting the characteristic textures of Dhokra lost-wax casting. The design features a central avian head with a prominent decorative crest and an opening at the beak. An elongated, upward-curving spout emerges from the forward section of the body, terminating in a stylized makara or mythical sea creature head. A structural handle connects the back of the bird head to the tail section. The body is densely ornamented with relief patterns including spiraling scrolls, cross-hatched panels, and linear bands. The vessel rests on a low, circular flared foot. A light-colored patch on the underside contains illegible incised characters that do not provide a definitive maker attribution.
