The Historic 1840 Tucker House Bed and Breakfast Auction: A Distinguished Offering of Primitives & Antiques
Lot 332:
Description
This pair of mid-to-late 19th-century chromolithographs features Victorian-era sentimental portraiture. The first print, titled LITTLE DAISY. in printed serif capitals, depicts a young girl with long brown ringlets holding a bundle of wheat and flowers over her shoulder while wearing a red bodice and a blue fringed shawl. The second print depicts a young woman with dark ringlets wearing a morning glory wreath and a plaid-collared dress, holding a pigeon or dove to her chest. While publisher marks are not visible, the subject matter and style are highly consistent with the lithographs produced by Currier & Ives. Both prints are housed in matching wooden cove frames. The reverse of one frame features a repurposed cardboard backing from a radio battery shipping box, with printed text including RADIO, 1 1/2 VOLT BATTERY, and MODEL 493.
