Description

This lot features two mid-19th-century hand-colored lithographs published in New York. The first print, titled Isabella, is a portrait of a young woman wearing a lace-trimmed shawl and a floral-lined bonnet. It bears the printed publisher marks Pub. by N. Currier. at the lower left and 33 Spruce St. N.Y. at the lower right. A copyright line below the title reads Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1844, by N. Currier, in the Clerk’s Office of the District Court of the Southern District of New-York. The second print, titled THE FIRST RIDE., depicts a child in a kilt and Glengarry cap riding a pony with a dog alongside. This work is marked PUBLISHED BY CURRIER & IVES at the lower left and 152 NASSAU ST. NEW YORK at the lower right. Both prints are housed in wide-profile rustic wooden frames with visible wood grain and primitive joinery. The backs are finished with a mix of paper and corrugated cardboard.
