Description
This pair of 19th-century hand-colored lithographs features two childhood subjects published by Currier and Ives. The first print, titled LITTLE MANLY, depicts a young boy seated in a green upholstered chair wearing a blue and red military-style uniform, holding a riding crop and a straw hat. It bears the printed marks Copyright, 1874 by Currier and Ives, N.Y. and includes a promotional line reading Presented free to every Subscriber to the YOUNG FOLKS GEM. PUBLISHED AT WADSWORTH, OHIO, AT 30 CTS. PER YEAR. The second print is titled PET OF THE FAMILY and carries the subtitle ON CHRISTMAS MORNING. It portrays a young girl with long curled hair holding a doll, a ball of yarn, and a hoop and stick toy. Both lithographs are presented in period wooden frames with original-style wooden backing boards and wire hangers.
