An assortment of hardcover volumes primarily focused on the history of the United States presidency and the life of Abraham Lincoln. The collection features a variety of publishers and subjects, with titles including The Imperial Presidency by Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. (Houghton Mifflin Company); The Lincoln Reader edited by Paul M. Angle (Rutgers University Press); Speeches & Letters of Abraham Lincoln edited by Merwin Roe; The Three Kentucky Presidents by Holman Hamilton (University Press of Kentucky); Lincoln’s Devotional (Channel Press); Atlas of the Presidents by Donald E. Cooke (Hammond); Lives of the Presidents; Homes of the American Presidents by Cranston Jones (McGraw-Hill); Pictorial History of American Presidents; and a large-format commemorative volume titled The Torch is Passed (The Associated Press). The books are primarily bound in publisher’s cloth or pictorial boards, ranging in size from octavo to quarto. Several volumes retain their original dust jackets. Visible markings include a library stamp for the Louisville Free Public Library on the top edge of the text block of one volume and a white numerical ink mark on the spine of another, indicating ex-library provenance for at least part of the group.
