Description
A pair of circular religious wall plaques crafted in high-relief painted chalkware. One plaque depicts the head of Jesus Christ wearing the Crown of Thorns, featuring downcast eyes and red painted droplets representing blood. The companion plaque depicts the head of the Virgin Mary wearing a white veil secured by a gold-toned clasp, also with a sorrowful, downcast expression. Both figures are modeled in high relief against a recessed, cream-colored background within a molded circular frame. The reverse of each plaque is unpainted and features an original integrated metal hanging loop. A faint handwritten character, possibly W7, is present on the reverse of one plaque. Diameter: 6.5 inches.
