Description
A set of German porcelain tableware manufactured by Lorenz Hutschenreuther, featuring illustrations from the drawings of John James Audubon. The set includes two oval covered serving dishes of graduated sizes and nine bread-and-butter or dessert plates. Each piece is crafted from white porcelain and decorated with multi-colored transfer-printed depictions of various North American birds perched on branches with foliage. The plates are finished with hand-applied gold rims. The serving dishes feature integral side handles and domed lids with central handles. The underside of the pieces bears the Lorenz Hutschenreuther factory mark with a lion and the initials HR, the location Selb, Germany, and the PASCO importer mark for Paul A. Straub & Co. The pattern name is printed in gold cursive within scrollwork, specifying the bird species depicted, such as the Barn Swallow.
