Description

A pair of solid sterling silver cream soup spoons produced by Towle Silversmiths of Newburyport, Massachusetts. The spoons feature the Candlelight pattern, which was introduced in 1934. The pattern is characterized by mid-century traditional styling with delicate floral and scroll motifs along the handle borders, framing a plain central panel. The spoons have the characteristic round, deep bowl intended for cream soup or bouillon service. The reverse of each handle is clearly marked with TOWLE, STERLING, Pat. 1934, the maker’s hallmark (a script T, a lion passant, and a figure of a man with a hammer), and the pattern name Candlelight. Length: 6.125 inches Weight: 104 grams (pair).
