Description

This figure is identified as the Puppo model, attributed to A.C. Williams of Ravenna, Ohio, and is constructed of painted cast iron. The piece depicts a seated black and white dog, modeled after a Boston Terrier, resting on a black rectangular pillow with molded tassels at each corner. The dog wears a green collar featuring the name FIDO embossed and highlighted in red paint. The construction consists of a two-piece hollow body joined by a single central iron screw accessible from the underside. The interior of the base is characterized by a recessed heart-shaped indentation surrounding the screw housing. This specific form was produced during the early 20th century both as a penny bank and a doorstop. This example appears to be the doorstop variant as it lacks a visible coin slot.
