Description
This framed sentimental print is a chromolithograph from the late 19th or early 20th century. The scene, often titled Guarding, depicts a young girl in a white dress sleeping soundly on a grassy patch of a beach. She is faithfully watched over by a large St. Bernard dog. A wide-brimmed straw hat with blue floral accents rests on the grass beside her. The background features a turbulent sea under a cloudy, overcast sky. No artist signature or publisher information is visible on the face of the print. The work is housed in an ornate period cove frame constructed of gilded wood and gesso, featuring repetitive geometric and floral relief motifs.
