Description
This antique American stoneware jug, commonly referred to as a beehive jug due to its shape, features a hand-thrown ceramic body finished with a dark brown Albany-type slip glaze. The glaze exhibits characteristic variations in tone from espresso to reddish-brown and a glossy, textured surface often referred to as orange peel. The vessel has a semi-ovoid form tapering toward a short neck and is finished with a manually applied strap handle. No maker marks, signatures, or capacity stamps are visible on the exterior or base. This utilitarian form and glaze are typical of mid-to-late 19th-century American pottery. Height: 10.5 inches Diameter: 7 inches.
