Description
This framed print after an original watercolor by Paul Sawyier (1865-1917) is titled View of Wapping Street. The composition depicts an impressionistic autumnal scene in Frankfort, Kentucky, characterized by soft tones and atmospheric light. A prominent, textured tree trunk anchors the left foreground, while two figures in period clothing walk along a sidewalk on the right. The sidewalk is bordered by a wrought iron fence and a brick wall with a square stone pillar. In the hazy background, buildings and a church spire are visible through the thinning foliage. The print is plate-signed PAUL SAWYIER in the lower right corner. It is presented in a double mat with a thin gilt inner border and a wider light-colored mat, housed in a molded frame with gilt and dark wood finishes. The reverse retains a label from Warrens Picture Framing in Frankfort, Kentucky.Overall frame height: 24 inchesOverall frame width: 30 inches.
