Description
A vintage hand-cranked apple peeler, attributed to the Reading 78 model by Lehman’s based on the distinctive turntable gear mechanism and frame architecture. The tool is constructed from a heavy cast iron frame with steel shafts, hardware, and a turned wooden handle knob. The operation is powered by a large, vertically oriented drive gear that turns a sequence of smaller internal gears to rotate a fruit-holding spindle. A spring-tensioned peeling arm is designed to articulate against the surface of the fruit during rotation. The unit includes a heavy-duty screw-clamp at the base for securing the tool to a table or workbench.
