Description
A nineteenth-century cast iron spittoon or cuspidor. The vessel features a wide, funnel-shaped rim tapering into a bulbous, compressed spherical body. It is finished with a worn black paint. A prominent raised horizontal line, known as a gate mark, is located on the underside, indicating that the piece was cast using older sand-casting techniques typically dating between the late eighteenth and mid-nineteenth centuries. The casting possesses a coarse, pebbled surface texture. No maker marks or inscriptions are present.Height: 7 inchesDiameter: 7.5 inches.
