Description
This antique stoneware jug is a classic example of 19th-century American utilitarian pottery, featuring a cylindrical body that tapers to a rounded shoulder. It is equipped with a single applied strap handle and a collared spout characterized by a wide pancake-style rim with a small integral pouring lip. The piece is finished in a deep, chocolate-brown Albany-type slip glaze. The glaze surface displays characteristic pitting, pops, and minor crawling where the slip did not fully cover the clay during firing. No maker marks, stamps, or capacity numerals are visible on the body or the base. The base shows concentric circular marks from the potter’s wheel and uneven glaze application along the bottom edge.Height: 9.5 inchesDiameter: 7 inches.
