Description
This late 19th or early 20th-century American rocking chair features press-back construction in a vernacular Victorian style. It is crafted from hardwood with a worn black-painted finish. The backrest is composed of seven vertical spindles set between two outer stiles that terminate in rounded finials. The crest rail displays an ornate machine-pressed or embossed floral and scrollwork motif. The curved armrests are each supported by two short spindles. The base consists of four turned legs joined by double side stretchers and single front and rear stretchers, all set upon wooden rockers. The seat retains a circular, shield-shaped pressed decorative design. No manufacturer labels or marks were observed.Overall Height: 41.5 inchesWidth at Arms: 23.5 inchesDepth of Rockers: 31.5 inches.
