Description
This antique oval utility tub or wash boiler is fabricated from sheet copper, featuring vertical side seams and a rolled top rim. The body is reinforced with two horizontal ribs. Two ferrous metal handle brackets with decorative scrolled profiles are riveted to the sides, holding turned wooden grips that retain remnants of black paint. The exterior surface of the tub has been refinished with a copper-toned metallic coating or paint, showing visible brushstrokes and drips. The interior retains a dark, natural oxidized copper patina with evidence of heavy use and mineralization. The body exhibits numerous dents and creases throughout.
