Description
An antique stoneware canning or preserving jar in the Weir style, likely produced by Western Stoneware or a contemporary pottery. The vessel features a cylindrical body with a rounded shoulder and a wide mouth, finished in an off-white Bristol style glaze. It is fitted with its matching domed lid, which has a recessed cross-shaped channel to accommodate the metal handle. The jar retains its original metal wire bail handle, which includes a cross-bar tensioning mechanism designed to clamp and secure the lid for an airtight seal. The unglazed base features an incised capacity mark of 3, with other markings present but heavily obscured by surface staining.Height to top of bail handle: 10.5 inchesHeight of jar: 8 inches.
