Description
Two American stoneware storage jars dating to the 19th century. These utilitarian vessels feature a cylindrical body tapering at the shoulder to a wide mouth with a thick, rounded rim. The gray jar is salt-glazed with a glossy, pebbled texture and an unglazed, buff-colored clay base. The second jar is finished in a yellowish-tan glaze or slip with a matte, weathered appearance and heavy patination. Both jars feature dark brown slip-glazed interiors characteristic of Albany slip. No maker marks, capacity stamps, or decorative markings are present on either vessel.Height: 10 inchesDiameter: 6 inches to 6.25 inches.
