Description

SHIPPING NOT AVAILABLE, FOR PICK UP OR TRANSPORT ONLY – This is an antique American Empire-style four-drawer chest of drawers, dating to the mid-19th century, circa 1830–1850. The piece is constructed with a cherry wood case and features highly figured curly maple, also known as tiger maple, on the drawer fronts. This vernacular pillar and scroll design includes a deep, overhanging top drawer supported by side columns that terminate at a platform base above turned feet. The drawers exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery with a low tooth count, typical of craftsmanship from the period. The secondary woods used for the backboards and drawer interiors are wide-plank pine or poplar. The chest retains turned wooden knobs and has integrated keyholes on each drawer, though no escutcheons or keys are present. The back of the case is comprised of three wide horizontal planks.Height: 45.5 inchesWidth: 41.75 inchesDepth: 21 inches.
