Description
This antique stoneware vessel, attributed to the folk pottery traditions of the Dordogne region in France, is a three-handle oil pitcher or huilier. The jug features an ovoid body with a wide shoulder and a flat base. Its most distinctive feature is the triple-handle arrangement at the top, consisting of a primary central arch handle and two smaller auxiliary handles on either side. A small pouring spout is located on the shoulder of the vessel. The jug is finished with a two-tone appearance; the upper portion is covered in a dark brown to black manganese or iron-rich slip glaze that shows typical mottling and dripped effects. The lower section remains unglazed, showing the natural buff or tan stoneware clay body. No maker stamps, capacity marks, or inscriptions were found upon inspection.Height: 12.5 inchesMaximum Diameter: 9 inches.
