Description
A large, hand-thrown stoneware pitcher featuring an ovoid body that tapers toward the base. The form is characterized by a flared rim with a pinched pouring spout and a prominent, applied strap handle finished with a distinct thumb rest at the upper terminal and a flattened terminal at the base. Fine horizontal throwing rings are visible throughout the exterior body. The pitcher is crafted from a buff-colored clay body with fine iron specking, finished with a clear, glossy salt glaze. Both sides are decorated with bold, hand-painted cobalt blue foliate or pod-like motifs connected by a central vine. Each pod contains a cluster of small, impressed brown dots, adding texture and visual contrast. The piece features two circular impressed marks, one located on either side of the upper handle attachment, each containing a stylized character resembling a lowercase g or an S with a spiral tail. The base has been fitted with nine circular felt pads in red, green, and white for furniture protection.Height: 9 3/4 inchesRim Diameter: 5 1/2 inchesTotal Width (spout to handle): 8 1/2 inches.
