Description
This is a framed commemorative print of the 1973 Triple Crown winner, Secretariat. The color illustration is by the artist Letitia and is signed and dated 1973 within the plate. The portrait depicts Secretariat in profile wearing his signature blue and white striped blinkers and halter. Printed text at the bottom center lists the horse’s name and his 1973 victories in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes, accompanied by three crown icons. The lower right corner indicates the print is from the Commissioned Collection of L. C. Gosney. The piece features a prominent signature in blue ink over the word Secretariat attributed to his Hall of Fame trainer, Lucien Laurin. The paper is covered in numerous other signatures in ink and pencil, many of which include professional titles and locations. Identifiable signatures include Ray Scaletta, C. S. Radcliffe Jr. (Iowa), Barney’s Blade Hall, Charlie Hudson, Ruth Hudson, Frances and Darlene Alford, G. Scott Birmingham M.D., Ed Beddingfield, Ernie Livingstone, Paul R. Dunkel M.D., and Robt Walter (Athens, GA). The background contains dozens of additional faint signatures in pencil.
