Description
A pair of antique cast iron still banks modeled after United States Mail and Air Mail collection boxes. Each bank features a rectangular body supported by four integral legs. The front of each unit is cast with the word LETTERS at the top and US within a rectangular frame below. The side panels are embossed with a winged eagle motif over the words AIR MAIL. These banks are constructed of two vertically cast halves joined by a single screw. The coin slot is located on the upper front slope. The surfaces are finished in black paint with gold-toned highlights on the raised lettering and emblems. One example features an additional blue painted border around the central US frame. These types of banks were produced by various American cast iron toy manufacturers in the early 20th century, including Kenton, Hubley, and Grey Iron Casting Co.Height: 4 1/4 inches Width: 2 1/4 inches Depth: 2 inches.
