Description
This collection consists of six vintage hand-painted ceramic whiskey decanters produced by the Hoffman Distilling Co. as part of the Mr. Lucky series between 1979 and 1980. The figurines are crafted from bisque-style ceramic and feature Irish leprechaun characters in various occupational and leisure settings. The group includes a large piano player seated at an upright piano decorated with holly and rolled sheet music; an elderly leprechaun with glasses and a pipe seated in a separate miniature wooden spindle-back rocking chair with a chipmunk; a railroad engineer with a pocket watch and toy train; a photographer with a bellows camera; a barber trimming another figure; and a farmer shearing a pig. Each figurine is hand-painted with a matte finish.
The base of the piano player is incised on the reverse with PIANO PLAYER, copyright 1979, and HOFFMAN DISTILLING CO. The four smaller standing figurines bear green printed marks on the rear of the bases: MR. LUCKY SERIES copyright 1980, the specific model name (MR. RAILROAD ENGINEER, MR. PHOTOGRAPHER, MR. BARBER, or MR. FARMER), and HOFFMAN DISTILLING CO. The heads of the standing figures are designed as removable corked stoppers.
