Description
A contemporary salt glazed stoneware jar produced by Westerwald Pottery in the tradition of 19th-century American ceramics. The small cylindrical form is constructed with a slightly bulging body, a tapered neck, and a heavy rolled rim. The exterior features a light gray salt glaze with a visible orange peel texture and occasional iron oxide spotting. Decoration includes cobalt blue slip bands at the neck and base, with the text NORTH VERNON impressed into the shoulder and highlighted with blue slip. Below the lettering is a hand painted cobalt blue floral sprig motif. The interior of the jar exhibits prominent wheel thrown ribbing. The unglazed, flat base is hand incised with the name Laura and the date 1990. Approximate dimensions: 6 inches height, 4 inches diameter.
