Description
Contemporary American salt-glazed stoneware vessel, possibly intended as a vase or small jar. The piece is handcrafted with a bulbous body that tapers toward a flared rim and matching flared foot. The exterior is finished in a light grey-buff salt glaze displaying a classic orange peel texture. Decoration consists of hand-applied cobalt blue slip-trailed designs depicting stylized wheat or grass stalks on one side. Single horizontal cobalt blue bands provide accents at the rim and the base. The interior is finished with a dark brown-to-black slip glaze. The base features an incised handwritten signature reading Shupe followed by a horizontal flourish and the date 2001.
