Description
This collection includes multiple hardcover volumes from two distinct late 19th-century sets. The first group consists of three volumes of The Seven Great Monarchies by George Rawlinson, published by Belford, Clarke & Co. These books are bound in blue cloth with gold-stamped lettering and decorative horizontal bands on the spines. The spine text identifies them as Vol. I, Vol. II, and Vol. III. The second group comprises multiple volumes from the works of Leo Tolstoy, published by Scribners. These volumes are bound in dark brown pebbled cloth with blind-stamped decorative borders at the head and foot of the spines. Visible titles include War and Peace (Volumes I and II), Anna Karenina, and a volume containing Master and Man, Kreutzer Sonata, and Dramas. The author’s name is stamped as Tolstoi on the spines, with the publisher mark Scribners at the base. All volumes appear to be in octavo format.
