Description
A hand-colored lithograph portrait titled Harriet, published by Nathaniel Currier in 1845. The print depicts a young woman in mid-19th-century formal attire, seated in a carved armchair with red upholstery. She is wearing an off-the-shoulder gown decorated with a row of bows down the center of the skirt and holds a small, ornate book in her left hand. The background features teal-blue drapery and a side table with a decorative cloth. The print is hand-tinted with color washes in blue, red, and flesh tones. The lower margin contains the title HARRIET. and the publisher imprint Lith. & Pub. by N. Currier 2 Spruce St. N.Y. A copyright inscription above the title reads Entered according to Act of Congress in the Year 1845 by N. Currier, in the Clerk’s Office of the District Court of the Southern District of New York. The piece is housed in a wide, beveled wood frame with a dark mahogany-toned finish. The reverse is sealed with brown paper and fitted with a hanging wire.
