The Historic 1840 Tucker House Bed and Breakfast Auction: A Distinguished Offering of Primitives & Antiques
Lot 353:
Description
This collection includes two pewter gravy boats manufactured by the Homan Manufacturing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, from the firm’s "The Pewter Shop" line. The items are representative of American Colonial Revival metalware from the early-to-mid 20th century. Both vessels feature spun pewter bodies mounted on cast pedestal bases. One gravy boat is designed with a scalloped rim and a scrolled handle featuring a decorative thumbpiece. The other gravy boat has a smooth rim and a simplified loop handle. The underside of the bases displays impressed marks consisting of the name "Ec. HOMAN" in an upward arch, followed by "PEWTER" and the model number "1 7 0". Below these marks is a cursive script stamp for "The Pewter Shop" set within a horizontal oval cartouche.
