Description
This framed color print, titled The Road, – Winter, is a photomechanical reproduction of the original 1853 hand-colored lithograph by Nathaniel Currier. The scene depicts a couple in a horse-drawn sleigh traveling through a snowy landscape with a farmhouse and trees in the distance. The print bears the printed inscription PUBLISHED BY N. CURRIER, 152 NASSAU ST. NEW YORK centered below the title. Along the bottom edge of the image area, the text reads Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1853, by N. Currier, in the Clerk’s Office of the District Court of the Southern District of N.Y. and LITH. OF N. CURRIER N.Y. is located at the lower right corner. A uniform photomechanical dot screen is visible across the image, identifying it as a later reproduction. The piece is presented in a vintage wooden frame with mitered corners and is secured with glazier points and a cardboard backer.
