Description

A large early 20th-century pressed glass footed bowl, or compote, featuring a wide ruffled and fluted rim. The bowl is decorated in the goofus glass style, characterized by cold-painted enamel applied to the surface of the glass. The interior displays an embossed pattern consisting of three clusters of grapes and surrounding vine leaves set against a gold-toned ground. The center of the bowl features a deep fluted well. The exterior is finished in a dark, textured gold paint that extends down to a ribbed pedestal base. The underside of the base (image 4) is molded with a radial starburst pattern and shows areas where the paint has worn away to reveal the underlying glass. No maker marks, signatures, or country-of-origin labels are visible on the piece.Diameter: 9.5 inches at the widest point of the ruffled rimHeight: 4.25 inches.
