Description

A single lead projectile, consistent with a mid-19th century American Civil War-era Minie ball, presented for display. The bullet exhibits a characteristic conical shape with two horizontal grooves, known as cannelures, encircling the lower cylindrical portion. The surface of the lead is covered in a heavy white oxidation patina. The projectile is mounted upright on a small, dark blue velvet-covered rectangular pedestal. The assembly is housed within a square shadowbox frame featuring a gilded finish with a repeating leaf-and-berry molding and a beaded inner border. The reverse of the frame is sealed with brown paper and features a twisted hanging wire. An orange and white adhesive plastic bag is attached to the reverse containing a metal picture hanger. Printed text on the bag reads A PRODUCT OF UNITED SUPPLIES INC. SYOSSET, NEW YORK 11791 Boca Raton, FL 33487. Two yellow circular adhesive bumpers are located at the bottom corners of the frame reverse. The shadowbox frame measures 6 1/4 inches square. The frame depth measures 1 1/2 inches.
