Description
This assortment contains three sets of vintage ceramic figural salt and pepper shakers. The first pair represents Bonzo the Dog, a stylized character figure manufactured in Japan. These porcelain shakers feature hand-painted black ears and orange facial details with gold-gilded accents on the paws, ears, and feet. They are marked on the front with the transfer-printed labels I M PEP and I M SALT and carry a black ink stamp on the underside reading Made in Japan. The second pair depicts the Japanese folklore deities Ebisu and Daikoku. These figures are rendered in glazed porcelain with elaborate hand-painted polychrome enamels, raised moriage ornamentation, and gilt highlights. Ebisu is shown holding a large red sea bream, while Daikoku sits on rice bales holding a magic mallet. The third pair consists of two seated skunks in a begging posture, finished in black and white hand-painted glaze on earthenware with small floral motifs on the backs. The collection includes several original cork and wooden stoppers. Approximate height of skunk figures: 2.5 inches.
