Description
This framed numismatic display, titled Wartime Coinage, was issued by The Kennedy Mint in 1974. The collection features a selection of US coins associated with the World War II era and later commemorative issues, arranged around a printed reproduction of Norman Rockwell’s 1943 painting Freedom from Fear. The set contains a group of Jefferson nickels, identified as War Nickels, which were produced from 1942 to 1945 in a 35 percent silver, 56 percent copper, and 9 percent manganese alloy. The display also includes Lincoln wheat cents, identified as shell cents made from recycled copper shell casings and 1943 steel cents featuring a zinc-coated steel composition. The bottom section of the mounting board features a 1972 copper-nickel clad Eisenhower dollar, a 1974 copper-nickel clad Kennedy half dollar, and a Roosevelt dime. All coins are displayed showing their obverse portraits. The assembly is mounted on a cream-colored card within a wood-grain frame that features a gold-toned inner lip. The back is finished with a dark grey cardboard backing secured by staples and includes a sawtooth metal hanger. The bottom margin of the card is printed with Copyright 1974 The Kennedy Mint.
