This set of six Chinese Ming-style hardwood chairs includes two armchairs (Guanmaoyi) and four side chairs (Dengguayi), commonly referred to as lamp-hanger chairs. The chairs are constructed from a dark reddish-brown hardwood, likely rosewood (Hongmu), exhibiting a prominent natural grain. Each chair features a curved yoke-form top rail with protruding ends situated above a central S-curved back splat. The seats are formed with inset rectangular wood panels within a mitered frame. The chairs are supported by four square-section legs joined by a series of four straight stretchers at staggered heights, with a simple recessed apron positioned below the seat rail. A decorative detail includes a small, incised square-scroll (leiwen) motif carved into the base of each leg. The joinery is traditional tenon-and-mortise construction.
