Description
This late 19th-century American stoneware jug is an ovoid-form vessel featuring a single hand-applied strap handle and a short neck ending in a rounded rim. The surface is covered in a mottled, light tan to ochre salt glaze, characterized by iron spotting, kiln drippings, and ash-related mottling typical of the period. A prominent glaze crawl or kiln scar is visible on the shoulder. The base contains a single incised vertical line in the center, which denotes a one-gallon capacity. Faint and illegible impressed characters are present along the outer edge of the base. Height: 9 3/4 inches Width: 7 1/2 inches.
