The D. Bertholf Auction: Tractors, Implements, Guns, Stoneware and Artwork
Lot 94:
Description
This antique toy depicts a horse-drawn buggy with a seated female passenger. It is manufactured from cast iron and utilizes a sand-casting process, evidenced by the visible seam running vertically through the horse. The horse is depicted in a trot and is joined to the carriage by two shafts. The carriage is a two-wheeled vehicle with multi-spoked wheels. The seated figure is cold-painted with a green dress and bonnet, featuring pink facial tones and black accents. The style of casting and figure is characteristic of late 19th or early 20th-century American manufacturers such as Kenton Hardware or Hubley, though no maker’s mark is present. Length: 7 1/2 inches Height: 3 1/2 inches Width: 2 inches.
