Lot 559:
Description
A two-piece footed covered candy dish or compote crafted from iridescent blue carnival glass. The design is in the Harvest Grape pattern, which features highly detailed embossed clusters of grapes and leaves on the body of the bowl, the top of the lid, and around the pedestal foot. The piece consists of a deep blue base glass with a strong iridescent coating that displays a spectrum of purple, gold, and green highlights. The bowl features a decorative scalloped rim, and the lid is topped with a finial shaped like a cluster of grapes. The item is manufactured using a pressed glass technique, resulting in visible vertical mold seams on the lid and pedestal. This piece is in the style of carnival glass produced by the Indiana Glass Company during the mid-20th century. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on either component. As a piece of pressed glass, it does not possess a pontil mark.
