Description
This is a late 20th-century reproduction of a French Provincial or Neo-Victorian style cradle telephone. The unit features an ornate cast metal body with a polished gold-tone finish, heavily embossed with scrollwork, acanthus leaves, shells, and floral motifs. The handset is constructed with a cream-colored plastic grip and matching mouthpiece and earpiece caps, connected to the base by a cream coiled cord. The rotary dial plate features a white finger wheel with black lettering and red numbering. Centered in the dial is a circular decorative cameo depicting a classical landscape scene. The phone rests on four integrated stylized scroll feet. A white oval label on the underside of the base provides regulatory and manufacturing information, identifying the item as Made in Taiwan with FCC approval number CPV 74G-63335-TE-R. This style of decorative telephone was commonly marketed in the United States during the 1970s and 1980s.
