Description

This is a mid-20th-century electric industrial wall clock manufactured by the Simplex Time Recorder Co. of Gardner, Massachusetts, for the Louisville and Nashville (L&N) Railroad. The clock features a circular black-finished metal outer case and a convex glass crystal protecting a silvered metal dial. The dial is printed with bold black block hour markers and the SIMPLEX brand logo in a modern sans-serif font. The lower portion of the dial displays the inscription LOUISVILLE and NASHVILLE / RAILROAD / 10th and BROADWAY, denoting the railroad’s historic headquarters location in Louisville, Kentucky. The clock is fitted with black-finished tapered hour and minute hands and a red sweep second hand. The reverse side features a protruding yellow-painted motor housing with a partially intact technical paper label. The label identifies the unit as a Type 76 and includes a wiring diagram with labels for SYN CLOCK MOTOR, GND, and color-coded lead instructions. Electrical specifications listed include 115 line volts and 60 Hertz. The manufacturer attribution is visible both at the bottom edge of the dial face and on the rear housing label.
