Description
A Victorian-era hanging pendant hall lantern, consistent with French converted gas lanterns from the mid-19th century. The fixture features a spherical frosted glass globe decorated with an all-over pattern of wheel-cut starbursts. The shade is supported by a cast metal gallery at the top with a scalloped, foliate-style rim and is secured by three thumb screws. The underside of the globe is fitted with a decorative cast metal cap featuring relief-carved five-pointed stars, a dentil-patterned border, and three acorn-shaped finials surrounding a central tiered ball finial. The metal hardware has a dark patinated finish. The fixture is suspended by three chains connected to a central mounting ring. The item has been rewired with a modern white plastic-insulated electrical cord and contains a single internal socket.
